Created by Aiyana Udesen, Matt Furie's partner, in 2016
PEPE by Aiyana Udesen is the first known Pepe-themed artwork created by Matt Furie's partner and fellow artist. Presented in 2016 as part of the exhibition "Silent Wonderment: Exploring the World of Giant Robot" at VPAM (Vincent Price Art Museum) in East Los Angeles, this marked the debut of her creative interpretation of the iconic frog.
Udesen contributed three large papier-mache Pepes, crafted with her signature psychedelic and colorful style. While Furie created Pepe as a comic character, Udesen brought him into sculptural form - whimsical, bold, and physically present.
The three papier-mâché sculptures were displayed at the Vincent Price Art Museum, showcasing Udesen'sunique interpretation of the beloved character.
Her work offered a new dimension to Pepe's visual identity, making it a standout tribute within an exhibition that explored pop surrealism and contemporary counterculture.
Matt Furie, the original creator of Pepe, has acknowledged Aiyana Udesen's groundbreaking contribution to the Pepe legacy.
Her papier-mâché sculptures represent the first physical manifestation of the beloved character, bridging digital culture with traditional art forms.
